An attester is an entity that verifies and confirms information about you and creates a verified credential to prove it. Examples of attesters include KYC providers, financial institutions, employers, and universities. A requester is an entity that needs that verified information to provide you with a service. Examples of requesters include DeFi platforms, exchanges, insurance providers, and financial institutions.

DIDs, or Decentralized Identifiers, are unique digital addresses that identify various elements within the SELF® Mobile App. DIDs offer unparalleled privacy and security by functioning independently of centralized authorities. A DID enables unique identification, verification of control, and overall secure communication In the SELF® Mobile App.

The SELF® Mobile App is available to you free of charge**. You may incur fees as determined by individual Attestors and through your interactions with third party registries (like blockchains). Please take the time to understand what fees are associated with your use of SELF® products.

The blockchain is used to register DIDs and maintain a decentralized ecosystem. SELF® does not maintain its own blockchain or coin and instead uses a blockchain agnostic-protocol, Multi-Dimensional Identity Protocol or “MDIP”.

SELF® is based on the MDIP DID method, which conforms to the W3C DID and VC standards. The MDIP DID method is designed to support a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) identity layer with secure decentralized VCs. MDIP enables participants to own, control, and selectively interact with digital identities. Please read more about MDIP here: Keychain MDIP.

SELF® is blockchain agnostic and any registry can be used to register DIDs. Please work with the SELF® sales team to identify any additional registries that you would like to see us integrate.
